Info topeng muka

Step 1

DO NOT BUY GENERAL SURGICAL MASKS
Do not buy regular surgical masks. The kind that you see your dentist wear will not protect you from the H1N1 / swine flu virus. Reason is they will not fit tight enough to prevent airborne virus particles to reach your mouth and nose.
Respirators used for occupational protection e.g. protection from saw dust) may not have the required filter efficiency and allow particles too big to pass.

Step 2
BUY NIOSH N95 PARTICULATE RESPIRATORS
Do buy masks that fit tightly to the face and have a particle filter certified NIOSH N95 or better. These types of face pieces are called particulate respirators. NIOSH is the abbreviation for National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. N95 means that this mask filters at least 95% of all particles 0.3 microns and larger.

Step 3
BUY DISPOSABLE
Even though you may think buying a respirator that can be reused may save money, buy disposable particulate respirators! After each (possible) contact with the virus the mask has to be disposed of.

Step 4
FITTING
Fitting the face mask is an essential step in finding a NIOSH N95 respirator that will protect you from the H1N1 flu virus.
The respirator should fit snug to your face. Different sizes are available - there is even child-size respirators.

Step 5
TEST
Put the respirator over your nose and mouth and cover it with both hands. Exhale. If air is leaking from around the edges of your respirator it is a bad fit. Adjustable headbands may compensate for bad fitting masks, by pulling the strings tighter, however preference should be given to good fitting respirator, so try another size or switch brands.
